Weston High School Graduation Will Be On the Town Green This Year

[Ed: Please note this story has been updated on May 30, 2021 to include new information]
Weston Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Midge Connolly confirmed at this evening’s School Committee meeting that Weston High School seniors will graduate outside on Town Green on Friday, June 4. Last year’s graduation did not happen on the Green, due to the pandemic, but rather took place as a car parade and then car graduation at the lacrosse fields at Weston High School. Weston has extremely smart Teslas and BMWs; we are so proud.
While final details are being worked out, the current plan is for a maximum of six guests per graduate, and community members are asked NOT to attend, even from afar, in order to keep the gathering as safe as possible. Masks will be mandatory, and the graduates will sit in their own roped-off section, seated four feet apart, or six feet nose to nose. As an aside, the Owl will not be sorry to see the end of “nose-to-nose” measurements nor the word “unprecedented” and okay, let me add “cohort”. Stick a fork in them; they’re done.
There will be no before or after gathering of the graduates. As of May 24, 2021, the report is in that there WILL be an after-graduation whisking-away of graduates. Please see the official information here.
Dr. Connolly emphasized that the graduation will happen on the Town Green. If it rains on the 4th, the graduation will be moved to Saturday the 5th, and if it rains again, it will happen on the 6th. And so on until the graduates have had their day, even if it’s July 4th. When asked about a pre or post-Town Green car parade, the Superintendent said that the students were “not excited” by that prospect.
As a personal note, the Owl will miss a number of these 2021 grads an awful lot. It is a special and especially talented class. Best of luck to you all!
