Weston Friendly Kids’ Matilda Jr Filled But Accepting Waitlist

Weston Friendly Kids has filled its 2021-22 Program for fourth and fifth graders to capacity, and is now accepting waitlist names. Having watched director Meghan Rose’s recruitment video, I can imagine why–what fun these kids will have with the announced musical production of Matilda Jr.
Weston Friendly Kids is a collaboration between Weston Recreation, Weston Public Schools and the Weston Friendly Society. The Weston Friendly Society is the second oldest theatre group in the country and brings several community theatre productions to the Town Hall each year–several years ago now, there was an Owlet performing as a Cratchit kid in my favorite production of A Christmas Carol ever. Yeah, biased, I know.
As part of the Weston Friendly Kids program, Weston fourth and fifth graders work with a professional director/choreographer, music director and stage manager from The Weston Friendly Society, to rehearse and perform a musical. All experience levels are welcome–kids learn about acting, singing, dancing, and working together as they bond as a group and create a fantastic production. Each production includes many roles, large and small.
The schedule of rehearsals and performances is out and online here. Rehearsals start after Thanksgiving and are on most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 pm. All rehearsals are at the Recreation/Community Center until after February break when the kids start to get used to the actual performance space at the Amy Potter Center at the Middle School. Performances are March 11-13.
To get on the waitlist, please email your name, your child’s name, and your child’s grade to friendlykidsofweston@gmail.com.
On an editorial note, I am constantly reminded and amazed by the musical and drama offerings in our small town. We are so lucky. For more information on Weston Friendly and some of its other community theatre offerings, please see http://www.westonfriendly.org/. Act local!
