High School Fall Athletics: Senior Nights This Week

For many fall high school sports, the bittersweet goodbye to senior teammates has begun. While senior year lasts until May (mentally maybe April 1), these are the last games that will be played with these seniors.
Last week, Varsity Golf honored its seniors. Many of the other sports follow this week, as they enter their last or second to last week of regular games. Some teams will go on to post-season, and others will not. Football and cross country teams, as well as Wayland-Weston Rowing, still have multiple weeks to go.
On a personal note, I for one will miss the fun of the Varsity Boys Soccer team whose captains and upperclassment welcomed both of my kids–one on varsity and one on junior varsity, starting with captains’ practices in August. It has not been a season successful in points and wins, but it has been exceptional to the Owlets, and a wonderful way to jump into the high school–with a friendly group of teammates. Truly, madly, deeply: thank you, Wildcat sports!
Here is a listing of the upcoming senior nights:

Golf: Senior Night was held on October 6 at Pine Brook Country Club in Weston against Newton South. There are two seniors on that team.
Boys Varsity Soccer: Wednesday October 13 at 6 pm (Senior presentation at 5:45 pm), Game against Waltham, Proctor Field. There are 12 seniors on the team, including all five captains.
Varsity Field Hockey: Thursday, October 14 at 4 pm vs. Westwood. There are 7 seniors on the team.
Girls Varsity Soccer: Friday October 15 at 6 pm,. Friday Night Lights!!! Game against Waltham High School, Proctor Field. There are 8 seniors, including all 4 captains.
Volleyball: Friday October 15 at 4:15 pm against Waltham. This is a combined Senior Night with Dig Pink event. There are 7 seniors on the volleyball team.
Football: Still in middle of season. Senior night will be November 5 or 12. There are 8 seniors on the team.
Girls and Boys Cross-Country: Still in the middle of season. According to Coach Monz, usually the underclass runners do something for the seniors at the DCL Championships (Franklin Park, Boston, October 28). There are 2 senior girls and 1 senior boy.
Have a great rest of the season, seniors and teammates! We’ll miss watching you wearing Wildcat maroon on the fields, courts, greens and turf. Go ‘cats!
*if you’ve noticed that there are more photos of Boys Soccer than any other sport, that is because it is the only team that sends me photos…yes, I have asked coaches…feel free to send some in from other sports!
