Run, Run, Run With the Suburban Striders Running Club

Recently the Owl was contacted by a member of the women-only Suburban Striders Running Club in Wellesley. Started in 2004 in Weston, the group has since migrated south to Wellesley but yet has clearly heard of the Owl’s fame in running only two half-marathons ever. Stand back folks, lest my aura blind you. Here I am hoping my kids will be recruited for sports and then it’s me, the most suburban of striders to stride. Sadly, I have already signed with an elite semi-rural club called the Roundhill Runners.

In any case, the Suburban Striders Running Club is made up of women runners of all abilities primarily from the Metrowest Boston area. The women in the group have a wide variety of goals, from racing/running long distances to just wanting to be part of a group to only run and not race. Or just avoid their children, No, just kidding. If you are “a runner” or have always wanted to be one so that you can spend lots of money on Sauconys and physical therapy, oh and you’re a woman, think about heading out for a trial session.

The club normally meets on Wednesday mornings from 9-10 am at the Wellesley High School track for coached workouts. During the winter (January-March) workouts are at the Babson College indoor track on most Wednesdays from 8:30-10:30 am. Please check out their page https://suburbanstriders.com/membership-info/ for the latest schedule. Interested women can observe the workouts to get a feel for the group before having to commit. I will say that running with a group really helps commitment and joy in running. I would not have made it through the pandemic in control of my sanity (mostly) without my running friends.
