Communication from the Administration of Weston Public Schools on Friday, December 31, 2021, confirmed that Weston Schools will be open on time and on schedule tomorrow morning, January 3. Pooled testing is in place and moved up in some schools to take place earlier in the week, as outlined in the email to public school families. The Owl attempted to confirm those exact times with a number of people in said Administration but was unable to reach anyone. With luck, public school parents will be hearing more tonight.

Other school systems have followed a different approach. Lexington, Burlington and Sharon will be closed Monday. Cambridge Public Schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, while several other districts including Waltham will have 2-hour delays on Monday. This has been done as an attempt to get everyone tested after their holiday travels and family time.

Students and staff are encouraged to test early and often, while all Weston athletes have mandatory testing. As a reminder, Wellesley High School has its Winter Athletics on hiatus because of Covid–let’s not be the next school to lose basketball, hockey, indoor track, etc to a shutdown. Masks are mandatory in school (unless you have a pre-approved exemption) and all wearers should realize their noses are part of their respiratory system (i.e., cover your nose and mouth with the mask, not just your mouth! It’s not rocket science. It is, however, science). Medical and KN95 masks are particularly encouraged in an effort to keep schools going this week.

We can do this, Weston. Test and mask, and stay home if you have any symptoms.

Oh, and go ‘Cats!
