Barn-Raising This Week at Land’s Sake

It’s busy-making time at Land’s Sake this week and next as the new timber frame animal barn is being raised this Friday March 11 through Wednesday, March 16. The community farm is asking for volunteers and fully-outfitted cheerleaders (go ‘cats!) to come out for the fun.

The new barn has “traditional craftsmanship” that uses prepared posts, beams, and braces made up of 60% donated Weston lumber. It will be assembled on-site on March 11 and 14, and then raised on March 15 and 16.  You can help construct the barn on Friday, March 11 (seems that most slots are filled) or Monday, March 14 (more availability). Adults and children are welcome but sign-up is required. Know that the Owl is not signing up but will flit by to make sure the golden larches are okay with this plan. Sign up here!

If you are feeling lazy (ahem, me), you can swing by on Tuesday, March 15 and Wednesday, March 16 (10 am to 4 pm both days) to watch the expert timber framers guide the pieces into place with the help of a crane (I presume this last part is not historically accurate). No sign-up is required for the lazies.

Now, to be real, the best part is for the truly lazies on Wednesday, March 16 at 3 pm and 4 pm when you can take a guided tour of the farm to see the progress and discuss Land’s Sake’s plans for your wallet…ahem, the farm at 3pm. Then meet at the new barn at 4 pm for complimentary snacks and a hot chocolate toast to celebrate the new and the fancy. Everyone is welcome! No sign up is required.

*All parking will be across the street from the farm, as the Land’s Sake lot will be closed.
