Jazz Jam at the AIC This Sunday

This Sunday, March 27 from 3 pm-6 pm at the Weston Arts & Innovation Center, it’s time for the internationally* known Jazz Jam with Chris Welles. In the case that you don’t know him, you are missing out. I was lucky enough to catch a little of his musical joy a few months ago at a “Going Away” party for Brian Donahue and Faith Rand at Julie Hyde’s barn (I guess technically that would be called Gateways). I admit that meeting my coveted resident palomino horse was a close second.

On the fourth Sunday of every month (how is March over? What happened there?), Chris Welles hosts the Weston AIC Jazz Jam. The house band will feature James Merenda on piano, Miki Matsuki on drums, Jon Dreyer on bass, and Chris on voice and guitar. The first hour will feature a performance by the house band – C Welles and The Resolutions – followed by a jam session with guests rotating in to play. Singers are welcome and are encouraged to bring song lead sheets in their key. I sort of want to have Meghan Balbale show up and kick things up a notch too.

Cost:$5 at the door. Weston AIC is located at 356 Boston Post Road.

Actual Chris Welles biography here: Chris Welles taught himself to play guitar as a kid by wearing out his blues and jazz records.  He went on to study at Berklee, Longy and Harvard; and with singers Karrin Allyson, Jay Clayton and Sheila Jordan.  “Chris, you are really — and I mean this — a wonderful singer!” — Sheila Jordan. Now an accomplished singer and guitarist in the blues and jazz genres, Chris moves audiences with the sound of his voice and the rhythm and subtlety of his playing.
