Weston METCO Potluck Supper This Friday, April 1

Not a dish at the Weston METCO Potluck Supper

When the Owl was a coruja (“owl” in Portuguese) and living in Brazil, a favorite activity was collecting bad translations. The best one I found was at a buffet in a chic business hotel near the office which had to translate menu cards for visiting (mostly) American executives, and clearly never ever paid a professional to do it. Imagine my surprise when I found “lizard” for lunch…which is indeed one translation for the word “lagarto” (also spelled wrong even in the home language) but should actually be a cut of beef, like a roast. After laughing for a bit, I opened the chafing dish to find it absolutely full while others nearby were half gone. Clearly, everyone believed the signage.

In any case, this is NOT what is going to happen at the METCO Potluck Supper on Friday April 1 from 6:30-8:30 pm, mostly because I am guessing no one knows how to cook lizard. Along with bringing a dish, please consider donating to the raffle which helps raise money for the METCO Family Friends Program. The supper is being held at the Weston High School, 444 Wellesley Street.

The price of the Supper is $5 per person or $20 per family. Delicious food, a DJ, and activities for the kids! You can pay in advance via Venmo (@westonpublicschools – memo line: METCO Potluck) or check to your child’s school METCO liaison. (See below for contacts). Tickets will also be available at the door.

If you are interested in donating a gift basket, gift card, or other items for our raffle, please use the sign-up genius link below so Family Friends can make up a fun translation in random languages–oh, just kidding. A sign will be made for each donation on the raffle table.
