Go Fish! Annual Kids Fishing Derby at Canada Goose Pond (HS) Sunday

Full moon on the pond in October. Geese hiding but always there.

No, it is not actually called Canada Goose Pond but honestly have you ever, even once, seen it without Canadian geese, eh? They even overwinter there in an effort to coat all possible grass field surfaces with poo. The Grand Owl is really not going to be happy with me writing the first paragraph with the word poo in it, but when I think of the HS pond I think of Canada geese and when I think of Canadians, I think of poutine, and then there are the geese which brings up… Well, okay, done.

On Sunday, April 24 from 9 am – 12 pm, the annual fishing derby is back in action, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland. I thought we used to do this with the Weston Firefighters too? Hmmm. Anyway, the pond has been stocked with fishies (catch and release, ya know) and moss bonkers, and definitely you get an extra prize if you find the Owlets’ missing gym socks. No, not really but there are prizes for kids 0-14 (I do question the “0” part, Rotary marketing people because I do not think babies can or should put worms on hooks).

Here’s the fine print:

Bring your own gear, bait (no lures, please), and bucket.

πŸŽπŸ†πŸŽ―There will be PRIZES for four age groups up to 14 years old.

βœ… No registration is required.

🌦 Rain or shine (the fish like to eat in all weather)!

πŸ₯€πŸ½ Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Park in the student parking lot (large one) and walk in. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Weston & Wayland. Questions? Visit https://westonwaylandrotary.com/page/fishing-derbies
