What’s going on?

Kids Discovery Garden, Rock Painting Scavenger hunt & Animal Visits
Explore the educational raised bed garden and help get it ready for this season.  Search around for signs of spring, and meet the bunny family while saying hello to old friends.  Help harvest rocks from the field to ensure the survival of farm equipment, and get creative with painting a rock to take home or decorate the farm!

Herb Garden Perennial Pollinator Project
Get your hands dirty and help the farm mulch the newly revamped herb and perennial pollinator garden at the front of the farm.  Land’s Sake has saved some old plants and added new varieties to encourage pollinator visits and education, while beautifying a favorite spot on the farm.  Thanks to Weston Plant Pollinator Alliance for visiting  to teach more about how you can help pollinators in your own backyard!

Hunger Relief Organizations & Local Support
A Group of Land Lovers started the whole thing over 50 years ago- Green Power was founded on the concept of bringing fresh food to struggling surrounding communities while teaching young kids a thing or two! Learn about the hunger relief organizations Land’s Sake works with today and how the work, supported by the community’s generous funding, is making a difference!  There wil also be opportunities for people to sign up for volunteer work, and learn how to help more!

Canned Food drive for the Weston C.O.A. please bring your donations to the hunger relief table.

Compost, Recycling & Sustainable Land Management
Make your way to the site of the compost pile which is turned with the big green John Deere tractor!  Meet Farm Manager Brendan Murtha, who will be talking about all things farm, healthy soil, & how Land’s Sake is working to improve composting on the farm and throughout the community!  Thanks to Sustainable Weston Action Group for joining with other groups in the effort to spread the love of recycling, sustainability, and learn what you can do to help at home!

Farmstand & Local Artisans
Visit the farmstand to pick up some local goodies, and some new items special for Earth Day! There will be Local Raw Honey, and the freshest batch of maple syrup from this season!  Local artisans will be there so pick up some beautiful Earth Day keepsakes for your home.  The farmstand will officially open on June 4th.

Capital Campaign & Land’s Sake Farm
With the addition of permanent structures and utilities, the Grow with Us campaign will allow Land’s Sake to expand its growing season and education programs, increase food production, give more produce to those in need, and better serve the community. The 40 acre masterplan focuses on increasing efficiency, reducing reliance on neighbors, and creating a more sustainable farming model with the goal of better serving the community.  Learn how you can help and double the impact of your donation.

Land’s Sake Farm
Staff will be onsite and at the LS info table to answer any questions you have about all things happening on the farm and with the organization.  Sign up for Membership, Green Dollars, Volunteer opportunities, and check availability of Veggie and bread shares.

Forestry, Trails  & Horticulture-and TREES!
Swing by the table talking about all things Trees!  Our Forestry Manager will be onsite to explain how we at Land’s Sake help encourage the health of forests right here in Weston, by tree felling, cutting firewood & boiling our liquid gold maple syrup.  Learn about the history of the trees on our farm which were planted decades ago by the Arnold Arboretum and Marian Case.  Tree Advisory Group will be around to answer questions about maintenance of trees and celebrate the new ones planted on Arbor Day (April 29).   Also connect with the Weston Forest & Trail Association to learn more about the open spaces and trails of Weston.

In addition, Tom Szekely of TAG will be giving away trees (bare root seedlings), as part of a grant. The trees are sourced from New England; the first batch was all grown from seed in New Hampshire. Eventually, Tom will also offer pruning and planting guides and workshops and hopefully a grafting workshop too. The trees being given away are white spruce, Douglas fir, grey dogwood, American hazelnut, and crabapple.
