Susan McDaniel Run for Lovelane is Back This Sunday, June 12

A tiny owlet circa 2017

The Susan McDaniel Run for Lovelane is back in person in Weston (with a virtual option) this Sunday, June 12. This is one of the Owl’s favorite local 5Ks, and Owlets have also run the 1/2 mile Kids Fun Run as well though they are now way too old and sleepy to be bothered. Starting at the Town Hall and winding its way through the now-safe-from-potholes Boston Post Road, it loops down Concord Road to Sunset and then back on Conant. Weston’s Heartbreak Hill (by the sculptures) leads to the Townhouse Road driveway and the finish line, neatly evading the Intersection of Doom.

The Owl will be running for the fourth time, and will be joined by the Round Hill Runner team, or maybe just one of them. Come and join us if you enjoy a 9:30 mile. You can also do a one-mile walk. I personally enjoy being smoked by someone on the WHS track team every.single.year–they’re always at the food truck by the time I roll in. It’s a wonderful community run/walk, and for an important cause. Here’s the info on Susan McDaniel from the Lovelane page:

Susan McDaniel, an avid athlete, actress, and equestrian, was a student at Lovelane throughout her two-year battle with cancer. Susan showed us how to defiantly live life. When surgery took the coordination in her right hand, she learned to write with her left. When treatments left her too exhausted to ride, she took joy in stable chores and teaching other students. Susan’s family spearheaded the Run in her memory to ensure all families have access to Lovelane’s unique and effective therapy.

All proceeds from the Run  support Lovelane’s Tuition Assistance Program, so that all children in need can receive the highly beneficial therapy at Lovelane regardless of their family’s financial situation.
