Special Town Meeting is September 13: Know the Issues

While the bruises from the 2022 Annual Town Meeting continue to fade and hopefully the Owl’s memories from it will soon, Special Town Meeting cometh anon. In case you are not from this area and have not enjoyed the specialness of the antiquated form of government for small towns called Town Meeting, well, you have no idea how much “fun” you are in for. Fortunately, and subjectively, this fall’s Special Town Meeting *seems* to be non-controversial. Note that I am usually wrong about these things–one can find drama just about everywhere in this town. I can hardly wait to see the signs that say “Yertl the Turtle Says No to Pickleball.”

Move along, Owl. Here’s the official stuff from the Weston Town site:

A Town Meeting scheduled during another time of the year is called a Special Town Meeting. The Select Board may call a Special Town Meeting at any time during the year, as necessary. The Select Board has scheduled a 2022 September Special Town Meeting on September 13, 2022, at 7:00 p.m at the Weston High School Auditorium.

The Issues

The printed warrant will be coming along soon to a mailbox near you, probably to be forwarded on to whichever island paradise you are inhabiting at the moment. Of the 8 articles, I predict the most craziness (on a scale of 10, probably a 5) on pickleball court CPA funding. Not everyone loves the smickety-smack sound or indeed the sound of people having fun. Perish the thought. Everyone knows that Memorial Pool needs splash pads, just hand over the money. Fine, read it yourself here: https://www.weston.org/DocumentCenter/View/33758/2022-September-Special-Town-Meeting-Warrant-PDF.

As always, the Owl reminds you that much like the lottery, you cannot win if you don’t play. Please come to Town Meeting. Or written differently, vote or be quiet.

Note: if you are feeling ‘catty, you can come early to Town Meeting and watch the Weston High School Boys Varsity Soccer team take on the Westford formerly-Grey-Ghosts-not-sure-now on that same day at 4:15 pm at Proctor Field, a Town Meeting-funded turf. Go ‘cats!
