Did You Know? The West Suburban YMCA Loves Weston, Too

Technically this is a Parliament of Owls post, which means it is written by someone without talons. In this case, Katie Sopcik, the Director of Marketing & Communications for the West Suburban YMCA (and Weston resident) reached out to the Owl to post the following information:

Did you know that Weston is a community served by the West Suburban YMCA in Newton? Founded and located in Newton Corner, our Y was founded in 1877 and is among the oldest YMCAs in the United States. With large windows and soaring ceilings, it has enough space and amenities for two indoor pools, inside and outdoor tracks, two cardio decks, indoor basketball courts, several strength training areas, multiple studio rooms, and children’s programming areas. Most importantly, it has the friendliest and most welcoming staff of any fitness facility in the state. (All joking aside, but actually pretty true.)

Fall program registration is open now, with classes and programs beginning next week. Check out their guide here, which offers everything from karate, archery, tiny tumblers, swimming, and of course youth sports leagues and youth personal training sessions. Adults have programs and personal trainer packages, and a whole host of group classes offered free for members. Adult members can also play indoor pickleball!

You can reach the Newton Corner location from most of Weston in about 20 minutes (or less), and the good news is that they are opening a second location this fall in the old Boston Sports Clubs gym in South Newton at 135 Wells Avenue which, depending on traffic flow, could be an even shorter drive. The new location will be a hub for youth recreation and fitness for all with 61,000 sq feet of space, 4 indoor basketball courts (which will accommodate volleyball and up to 12 pickleball games), 3 group exercise studios, full strength and cardio equipment lines, an inside pool, and new locker rooms. Members will be able to go to both locations.
Find out more, here, or stop by for a tour. The Y delivers on its cause to strengthen community- whether building confidence in kids, encouraging someone to achieve a healthy goal, or bringing people from different backgrounds together to improve neighborhoods- every connection made contributes to a better “us”.
