Household Hazardous Waste Day Is September 10

A holiday recently entering the Weston town calendar is Household Hazardous Waste Day, known sometimes (okay never) as the Hohawaday. It is a day that you attempt to borrow someone else’s car to lug all kinds of liquids and pastes and crap that you thought you would use on your lawn/pests/laundry but realize that nature abhors these things, including the fireflies which have never recovered from your grub killer.

Now, if you’re like me, you have inherited various cans and gallon containers that are sitting on your garage shelf waiting for the apocalypse or your house sale, whichever comes first. Get it together, Weston, and bring it on in to the Department of Public Works (190 Boston Post Road Bypass), this Saturday, September 10 from 9 am to 1 pm. Expect a line. Keep your windows open so you don’t fume yourself.

The list of what you can and can’t bring follows. You can find it online here. Do not bring latex paint cans full of mustard yellow mistakes–as you can see, you should dry it out and chuck it in the trash.

Clean it up, Weston! Happy Hohawaday!
