School Committee Meets November 29: Updates, First Looks, Etc

The next meeting of the Weston School Committee will be Tuesday, November 29, at 7 pm at the Weston Middle School’s Amy Potter Center. There are at least two topics that are tempting to the Owl, who will be on soccer mom duty, but trying to listen in from marginal parking lot wifi. The social studies program review is always filled with mentions of the fact that South America is largely ignored in the school curriculum. Oh wait, no. The Owl will, however, take this moment to say “Vai Brasil” which plays Switzerland at 11 am. Anyone who thinks the Owlets are paying attention in their classes at that time clearly has no idea what it is to be Brazilian.
Returning from our World Cup diversion, know that there will also be an update on the collective bargaining process and policy stuff, and then the exciting foreshadowing of a “potential need to develop a conflict of interest policy concerning athletic and extracurricular adult leadership.” Hmmmmmmmmm…what could that mean? Tune in to find out–or show up in person at the Amy Potter Center Tuesday night.
The actual agenda is online, but here is the Facebook School committee summary:
Planned business includes:
-A presentation of the recommendations from the external review of the district’s social studies program
-An update on the collective bargaining process
-Continued discussion of updates to policy manual section I, which encompasses instructional policies
-An initial discussion of the potential need to develop a conflict of interest policy concerning athletic and extracurricular adult leadership
The public is invited to attend in person or via Zoom. Twelve minutes have been set aside on the agenda for public comment, with up to three minutes allocated per speaker.
