Weston Pianist Performs Virtual Concert Saturday December 3

Weston resident Marvin Wolfthal will be talking about and performing Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations virtually this Saturday December 3 at 7:30 pm. While obvious, let me confirm that the concert is virtual, but Marvin really will be playing.

From the marketing materials: “Beethoven’s “33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli” has been called the greatest work written for the piano, and it is certainly the most monumental work in variation form for the instrument. Yet it is heard relatively infrequently in concert, partly because of its length and difficulty, but also because it has a reputation for abstruseness.”

In his talk, Marvin will discuss the amusing history of its composition, and will provide examples that will reveal it to be an accessible and fascinating masterpiece of profound beauty and even comedy.

The proceeds of this concert will be donated to the Dupuytren Foundation, dedicated to finding a cure for a disease that affects the hands. Please visit www.dupuytren.org

Groupmuse will be streaming the concert through this link. Please sign up to attend: http://grpm.us/Clgq8w.
