Holiday Lights for Hope and Comfort: Light It Up, Weston!

So most evenings now (and when I say evening, I mean post-4:11 pm which is the current sunset time) I pass by a series of homes on Merriam Street with holiday lights and decorations that make me smile every single time. The tiny Christmas tree at the corner of Cherry Brook, the three-in-a-row houses near Willard–things are happy and bright. And, here’s hoping that more homes light it up and participate and donate to the Holiday Lights for Hope and Comfort this year.

The most important thing for you to know is that this is all about charity. Proceeds of the event benefit Hope and Comfort, a Weston-resident-created 501c3 that provides essential hygiene products to support and improve the health, self-esteem, and hygiene education of school-aged children and young adults in need within the Greater Boston area.

So while you may think “why would I pay $100 to light my house when I already pay Eversource $8 trillion?”, the answer is that by participating, you have donated money to this important organization. Ditto paying for the $50 tour map–it’s worth $50 because hope and comfort are worth much more than that. If you wish to simply donate, that’s fine too…but how about a little north vs south competition fun. East vs west? Odd side of the street vs even? Modern vs colonial vs the white-paneled/black window trim generation of houses?

At this point, I would like to mention that size of the house doesn’t matter. One of my favorite houses from last year is not a castle, though it possibly is a shed. Please consider jumping in and joining the list of houses–it would be great to have some new contenders take on the past year’s competitors. You are committing only to one night of Eversourcing (or Tesla battery-ing if you’re one of those…or solar, or whatever). December 18. Do it.

And yes, I will be back to recruit more drivers on the roadways with their maps on December 18. You drive, have a navigator.
