Official Invitation: Senior Night for WHS Boys Basketball February 10

As everyone knows, there is nothing the Owl likes more than a senior night. Okay, tacos. Probably cake. My dog. Sometimes the owlets. Oh never mind. So far this winter, the Owl has been present for the senior nights for girls basketball, girls hockey and now has exciting plans for boys basketball on Friday night February 10 when Weston takes on the Bristol-Plymouth Craftsmen. I am going to have to discuss the B-P mascot with someone at some point but I’m going to drop it right here and you can make of it what you will:

This is “Crafty”. I have no words. This is unusual.

….ummm okay, so anyway, you are all invited out, Weston, to cheer on the Boys Basketball team because I have seen what a home cheering crowd does for the energy of these boys who are running up and back and up and back and all that stuff that comes along with a game I little know. At the last Friday night home game against Wayland, the Cat Den of students was amaaaaazing. The parents tried to keep up, thank goodness for energy provided by the jellybeans in another mom’s purse. Yum.

It being Senior Night, the seniors will be honored before the game. The game starts at 7 pm so if you back track it a bit, the presentation will probably start at 6:45 pm. My advice? Come at 6:30 because Boosters will be there selling “merch” with Weston all over it and you need some. I need some. Remember that merch proceeds will go to fund all kinds of good stuff for our athletes like benches and bench coats and other nice things like scoreboards etc.

There are 9 seniors on boys basketball this year:

Dana Williams 0 [captain]
Chidalu Onwuama 1
Martin Wagner 2
Michael McLoughlin 5 [captain]
Jake Shulkin 23 [captain]
Trevor Gold 32
Sam Iyer-Singh 41
Hunter Gutting 34
Jordan Crawford-Cranmore 35

When I contacted the Wildcats Varsity Coach Patrick Watson, he was effusively positive about our Wildcat seniors:

“I couldn’t have asked for a better group of young men to work with the last four years. Our seniors and I have spent a unique four years together. It began sharing gyms when they were 9th graders; coaching them as sophomores on JV in the middle of a pandemic; then we all moved up to varsity together last season.  They traversed the changing landscape of the pandemic, worked through masking, shut downs, quarantines and they have never wavered or quit. They will be greatly missed when they graduate in the spring.”

Coach Watson went on to include the entire team in his comments: “It’s been a honor to coach our amazing Wildcats players this season. Their commitment, effort and resilient mentality is a model for our community both in competition and in our daily lives. These student-athletes have represented themselves, their families and our school community positively. They have set a standard for the younger generations of Weston basketball players to achieve in the future.”

And there you have it, Weston! Come on out to cheer on our Wildcat team and give a rousing sendoff for our seniors.

Once again and always, go ‘cats!

The Weston Boys Varsity Basketball team will take on the Bristol-Plymouth Craftsmen on Friday, February 10 at 7 pm (earlier for senior night presentation). Weston High School gym, 444 Wellesley Street.
