Newsies, Jr with Weston MS Drama February 10 and 11

It is true that I missed the lead-up to the middle school musical. It’s not a huge surprise, really, because my current in-box is hundreds of unread messages long. Between reading updated news about Flaco the escaped Eurasian eagle owl in New York and the eagle mom probably the victim of foul play in Florida, plus perusing the latest places to buy sugared stuff (Girl-Up at HS, Weston Public Library TODAY, and Krispy Kreme next month) I missed it. The irony of me missing a post about a musical about newspapers does not escape me; I merely refuse to acknowledge it.
Here’s the story outline from Music Theater International:
“Disney’s Newsies JR.:” is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.
When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right.

The Middle School musical is ALWAYS fantastic and though I missed posting last night’s show, the next performances are at 3:30 pm today Friday, February 10, and at 3 pm and 7 pm tomorrow, Saturday, February 11. It’s my experience that today’s show will have a lot of middle schoolers staying after school to see it, and probably Mr. Taylor too, who is a constant at MS productions. If you don’t know Mr. Taylor, Science Teacher and fun classroom owner (“don’t touch my stuff!”), then hopefully you will someday. He remains one of the owlets’ favorite teachers ever.
