WHS Nordic and Alpine Ski Teams Finish Regular Season

Okay, so if anyone didn’t notice we haven’t had much snow this year, I surmise you are in your Florida half-time residence. The Owl is cranky about the situation as she has gotten to Nordic (cross-country) ski ONCE. Folks, I live in the dark north for one reason only: trail skiing. Making reservations for New Hampshire because Weston is now deep south.

The Weston High School Alpine and Weston/Waltham Nordic Ski teams have had a challenging season. Why? Did you just read the first paragraph or are you skipping to the end? While the Owl is almost never on Twitter, she caught Athletic Director Mike McGrath’s hilarious tweet about the Nordic team on Wednesday, the last regular season meet of the year. Here is his summary:

“Weston/Waltham Nordic Ski prior to today’s race at the Weston Ski Track. Team picture along with captains, Weston skier Holden Langenhagen showing off their new team jackets and…..golfers across the street???”

So it looks like they have snow, no? And so they do…and yet…across the street from the Weston Ski Track:

Ahhh, climate change. The Owl caught up with Holden Langenhagen, one of the Weston/Wayland captains, for whom there are apparently no bad days, or bad winters:

“The season has definitely been slower than those previous, but Leo J [Martin or Weston Ski Track] does a great job at keeping the snow alive, so we had five league races this winter. It’s been a fun last season for me and the other seniors!”

The Weston/Waltham team is led by Holden, Mackenzie Morong, Owen Manchek, Seamus Pilette, and Kaitlyn Mayer. They enter the post-season on Tuesday when they head to the sunny climes (?) of Vermont at the MIAA State tournament (and yes, the Massachusetts State race is in Vermont…because…). Go ‘cats!

And now, Alpine. Here’s what I know. They had their final race at Nashoba Valley yesterday but I have no update and no photos. It’s like your TV dies in the middle of the season finale. Here’s what I know: both the Girls & Boys Alpine Ski teams finished the regular season in second place. The teams started league playoffs yesterday at Nashoba Valley at 3:30pm.

#2 Weston Girls vs. #3 Concord Carlisle Girls

#2 Weston Boys vs. #3 Lunenburg Boys

Do I know what happened? I do not. Killing me. This post will be updated when someone puts the Owl out of her misery.

Go ‘cats!
