Town Caucus is Tonight and There Will Be Donuts*

.
Town Caucus takes place tonight Monday, March 6 at 7 pm. At the Caucus, prospective candidates for the various town elective offices are nominated to be placed on the ballot for the Annual Town Election, held on May 6 this year. The two candidates for each open position who receive the largest number of votes at the caucus are designated “Caucus Nominees” on the Town Election ballot. Each caucus nominee must receive a minimum of 8 percent of the votes cast tonight.
It is always interesting to see who nominates who for a position (and by the way, you can nominate yourself, though you cannot both nominate and second yourself). As I said in a prior Owl, I cannot recommend Caucus highly enough. It’s like the night the Oscar contenders get released. It’s draft night. It’s the night of the World Cup draw when little ping pong balls pop up with names on them except in this case it’s people popping up and yeah, this analogy is not working. Do not miss this BIG NIGHT.
Alternatively, candidates wishing to run for office who are not nominated by the Caucus may take out nomination papers, available from the Town Clerk’s Office by March 16, 2023. Signatures of at least 50 registered Weston voters must be obtained, and the nomination papers must be filed in the Town Clerk’s Office and the nomination papers must be filed in the Town Clerk’s Office by March 20, 2023. Specific election deadlines are outlined in the election schedule.
As always, I express my gratitude to the volunteers for this town. They take an inordinate and somewhat mystifying (to me) amount of criticism, and give an extraordinary amount of time. I am not sure how that math works but thank you to those who step up.
Weston Caucus: Monday, March 6 at 7 pm, Town Hall Auditorium.
*Okay, technically there will not be donuts unless you ordered from the WHS Krispy Kreme donut fundraiser. The Owl did. I cannot help those who missed out…
