Did You Know? Non-Traditional Scholarships Available from St. Vincent de Paul

.
St. Vincent de Paul of Lincoln & Weston is fairly well known for the food pantry they run and the financial assistance they offer to those of limited means in the two communities. For those residents on our Facebook Community page (and I admire your resilience), you may be familiar with the call-out for food items, as well as the wonderful response from our residents to those call-outs.
But did you know SVdP also provides scholarships of a non-traditional variety? True story. The program helps eligible adults who live, work or go to school in Weston and Lincoln better their employment prospects in a range of different areas. These scholarships are not for high school seniors heading to college, but for folks who want to polish their skills to increase their income potential.
The scholarship program is designed for people who have been out of the workforce who need to acquire a skill that makes them desirable to employers; or for someone working a fast food job who wants to learn a new trade that could give them a better income. For example, in the last 3 years SVdP has given grants for courses in accounting, CAD, health care management, nutrition, nursing, social work, environmental studies, cosmetology and ESL.
