Household Hazardous Waste Day: Saturday, April 1 at DPW

.

The Owl’s absolute favorite-for-its-charm department, the Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting a Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day on April 1, 2023 from 9 am-1 pm. Yesterday the Owl got yelled at for parking where she was allowed to park for the Psychological First Aid Course at the Police Station, and this is not appreciated. What is appreciated is all the hard work the DPW does keeping roads and sidewalks clear, fixing potholes in roads, taking care of the transfer station, driving around with Chucky dolls to frighten the new permitted drivers (fine, they don’t even know who Chucky is so it’s me scared) and the whole rest of the list which is endless.

Hazardous Household Waste Day is colloquially known as “get those chemicals out of your garage” day. It can also be termed as “Now I know better, so get this out of here” day for products such as brush killer (bad stuff), grub killer (fireflies hate that) and various products you bought during the pandemic in a panic about keeping surfaces clean. The list of what you can drop off should be perused before arrival at DPW.

For more information on what is allowed and what is not, visit: https://www.westonma.gov/…/Household-Hazardous-Waste… My favorite admonishment is to not bring ammunition, fireworks or explosives. It begs the question…did someone bring some in the past? Also a reminder that although it will be April Fool’s Day, jokes about hazardous stuff may or may not be taken well. Humor at your own risk.
