WPS Interim Superintendent Interviews, Forums, Decisions Start Today April 5

As noted in the Owl on April 3, the School Committee Interim Superintendent Search Committee (SCISSC and pronounced “Sisk” except not really, and it was dissolved) named three interim school superintendent finalists. And has sent out some very detailed information about interview dates and times (today, by the way) and public forums and decision dates, etc. The date of selection for the Interim Superintendent is April 14.

Dear Weston School Community,

Last night [Monday night, April 3] on behalf of the Weston School Committee Interim Superintendent Screening Subcommittee, Field School Principal Dan Green announced three exciting finalists to move to the final phase of the interim superintendent search. Moving forward, in alphabetical order, the School Committee will consider the following finalists: 

Mr. John Gibbons, current Weston Middle School Principal

Mr. Paul Peri, current Weston High School Principal

Dr. Karen Zaleski, current Hopkinton Director of Student Services

Short biographies and application packets will be posted to the School Committee Superintendent Search page

During the meeting, the School Committee also agreed to the following schedule for interviews, public sessions, deliberations and final vote. 


On Wednesday, April 5, the School Committee will interview the finalists. The interviews will be conducted in person in the large conference room of Case House according to the following schedule: 

  • 10:45 AM: Meeting opens
  • 11:00 AM: Principal Paul Peri
  • 12:45 PM: Break
  •   1:00 PM: Principal John Gibbons
  •   2:45 PM: Break
  •   3:00 PM: Dr. Karen Zaleski
  •   5:00 PM: Adjournment

The interviews will be open to the public, but will not be livestreamed. The recording will be made publicly available as soon as possible after their conclusion either on Weston Media or posted on the School Committee Superintendent Search Page


On Monday, April 10, the School Committee will hold a public forum with the finalists, enabling them to respond to questions submitted in advance by the public. The forum will be held via Zoom according to the following schedule: 

  • 6:30 PM: Meeting opens
  • 6:45 PM: Dr. Karen Zaleski
  • 7:30 PM: Principal Paul Peri
  • 8:15 PM: Principal John Gibbons
  • 9:00 PM: Adjournment

During the forum, the public will be invited to provide feedback about each finalist. 

In advance of the forum, if you’d like to submit a question for one or more of the finalists, please use this Google Form. Questions are requested by Sunday, April 9, at 11:59 p.m.


On Wednesday, April 12, the School Committee will hold its initial deliberation in person and live streamed from Case House at 12 PM. The meeting will be open to the public. The committee members will share their own observations about finalists and highlight feedback submitted by the public. 


On Friday, April 14, the School Committee will meet at 9 AM. for a final vote on the finalists. The meeting, held via Zoom, will be open to the public.
