The Local and Global Discussion Group of the Weston Council on Aging will tackle the timely — and thorny — topic of war crimes at its next meeting on May 11 at 1:15 pm. Questions to be discussed include:

  • What are war crimes?
  • How have war crimes been prosecuted, or not, in the 20th and 21st centuries?
  • Are the laws of war, such as the Geneva Conventions, effective as a humanizing force in the conduct of war? If not, why not?
  • Is there any hope that mankind can police itself into a more sane approach to the conflicts that will inevitably arise in the future? Or are we doomed to continued brutality and, possibly, mutually assured destruction?

The discussion will be led by Susan Wagner.

The meeting will be in person, with an opportunity to take part via Zoom as well. It is open to anyone who is interested in a civil discussion of the issues with a wide variety of participants. Call the CoA at 781-786-6280 if you need a Zoom link. Or just show up and take a seat at the table in the Gathering Room of the CoA.
