Watch City Steampunk Festival in Waltham May 13

The fact is that the Owl does not fully understand the Steampunk Festival that happens each year since 2010 in our neighboring “W” town of Waltham. On Saturday, May 13 the Town Common of Waltham will be transformed into…well, what exactly? Steampunk Heaven. If you do not know what steampunk style is, don’t worry, the Owl didn’t know either so looked it up: “Steampunk is a design style inspired by Victorian-era industrialism. Science fiction author K.W. Jeter created the term steampunk in 1987 to describe a style of fantasy fiction that featured Victorian technology, especially technology powered by steam.”

Less may be more this year as it is going to be HOT. Will this be the year I finally pull my KISS-level black-eye makeup and Rennie-Goth-Steampunk outfit out of the trunk and hit the town common of Waltham? My preference is that you go, find out what the deal is at the vulture stand (true story) and get back to me.

.
Perusing the full schedule, there seems to be something for everyone including jousting or sword play which may end up leading into the Blood Drive happening right before the River Walk. Umm, yikes. No, really it looks like lots of fun with kids stuff and also belly dancing. Arts and crafts. Cool.

.
And check out the food trucks here (cannoli seems a little out of place, no? Well, what do I know). Ya Mother’s Truck N Kitchen sounds interesting.
