Japanese Knotweed Wars Continue May 16 and May 20

.
Weston’s Conservation Department continues its educational and hands-on Invasive Plant series with Japanese knotweed today, Tuesday, May 16, and Saturday, May 20 from 10 am to 12 pm. If you are not familiar with Japanese knotweed, you actually are…its beautiful and very very invasive very bad self is all over Weston. The Owl tries not to be judge-y about plants because well, we all want to live and knotweed is no different but it wants to kill off everything else so it can live and that is not the golden rule. Therefore it must be smited. Smote. Not sure, and not looking it up.
Weston’s Knotweed Wars were first started in June 2021 when a hardy bunch of volunteers came out to whack, pull and stomp the knotweed at the Battle of the Brush Dump. Remember that is where it was discovered that the “clean fill” for the Town Center project was actually filled with knotweed infiltrators which made that project quite fun. Last June brought the Battle of Dickson Ring where new methods of destruction are being tested, and then finally the Teen Team started and Weston’s hunters continued the battle at Woodland School Front. Guess what? It never ends. Now it’s your turn to get involved with two chances this week. Please RSVP to Conservation at conservation@westonma.gov. so they can inform you of any schedule changes. Go get’em, Weston!
