Time to Renew or Join the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)

Who wants the PTO to get a cooler graphic with a wildcat on it? Me.
Go ‘cats!

It’s crazy-hard to believe but we are at the denouement of the Weston Public School year. “Denouement” is one of my favorite Frenchy words along with ratatouielle and rapprochement. Also brie and bagette. I just looked it up and denouement means “the final part of a play, movie, or narrative in which the strands of the plot are drawn together and matters are explained or resolved.” So here we are pulling together the plot and resolving a 2022-23 school year with seniors graduating next Friday, and final exams starting next Thursday through the following week, and ending the year with June Academy (high school), J-term (middle school), field days, fun days and movings up and clappings out. The Owl is still looking for her invitations to all events–she did already receive one invitation to the Senior Athletic Awards and will most likely attend because there are tacos. Wait, there’s not? Hmmm.

The end of the year means it’s time for Weston Public School families to renew or join the PTO. There is no possible way to communicate all the PTO does for the schools – breakfasts for teachers, creative arts and science-y things for the students, a last-minute funding of a fifth grade tree, and all the other things that help make our Weston schools the best on the planet. So, show your gratidude and love for the PTO by renewing or joining now during their annual membership drive.

If you have a child in the Weston Public Schools, please join or renew your Weston PTO membership for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.  Don’t forget to update your contact information when you join so the directory is accurate (but please DO NOT update your children’s grades – that will take place automatically later this summer). I was going to update the owlet’s grade levels to 8th grade to just hold on to them here for while longer, but it turns out they actually want to go to college at some point. In two years maybe.

The Weston PTO is an all-volunteer, parent-run, non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the education of Weston Public School children and fostering community within the schools. The PTO keeps parents connected and engaged by facilitating a closer relationship between the schools and home and by serving as a communication link between the two.

The annual membership fee is $75 per family. By paying that fee, you support the many ways the PTO engages with the school community. The annual budget is raised solely through membership dues and goes directly towards supporting the many wonderful events and activities PTO volunteers organize for all 5 district schools. Your membership also:

  • Helps you connect with other families by providing access to an online directory of all families with students in the public schools.
  • Enables you to purchase a printed version of the PTO school directory for $15 each.

Join or renew now!

  • keeps you informed through the PTO’s Westword weekly electronic newsletter listing consolidated school and community activities and events
  • supports educational programs spanning all grades K-12 and coordinate visits by select authors, artists and performers, like the Tangelwood Marionettes and authors Kate Messner and Jennifer De Leon.
  • sponsors parent education events with guest speakers representing various disciplines, like Dr. Jill Walsh on helping children establish technology boundaries.
  • coordinates back-to-school parent socials each fall helping to build important grade-level parent connections.
  • organizes community outreach drives supporting local charities, like Bristol Lodge and the Lincoln-Weston Food Pantry, while offering kids and families the opportunity to engage in social responsibility and philanthropy.
  • hosts regularly scheduled parent/principal coffees to build and maintain important connections with school leadership.
  • organizes social events for parents and children like the Halloween trunk-or-treat, elementary schools drive-in movie night, Middle School art show, and High School graduation events.
  • sponsors faculty/staff appreciation events throughout the year at each school.
  • parent volunteers who serve as school chairs, class parent advisors and room parents create a critical liaison between the PTO, parents, teachers and school leadership.

Please let the PTO know! There are many opportunities, and short and longer-term commitments are equally welcome. Whether it’s helping to organize a class event, bringing performers, artists and authors to the schools, volunteering at a STEM Fair, welcoming new families to the community, helping the Green Team’s sustainability programs, the website and communications team, or serving as a school chair, the PTO has a place for you!
