Weston Police Relief Association 5K is on October 21: Sign Up Now

Okay, Weston runners and walkers, it’s time to sign up for the second annual Weston Police Relief Association 5K, held this year on Saturday, October 21. Last year’s first edition of the run included a sprint to the finish line by Police Chief Goulding and Fire Chief Woodside, a phalanx of police cadets running fast and in lockstep, and absolutely zero cameos by everyone’s favorite K9 Knox. I hear that this year Knox will be running sweep to motivate anyone straggling to keep up. Oh fine, he won’t be there, he will be working. Go Knox!
Speaking of working, this fundraiser exists because we don’t pay our police officers enough. Yeah, I’m going to be blunt on that. I know what I know, fight me. Just FYI though you should remember that Knox totally would be on my side. If you don’t know about WPRA (pronounced Weeprah), you can read this Owl interview of president Sergeant Dan Costa from last year or watch the Wes-TEN about the 5K, also from last year which is one of my favorite shows. Try not to be sad to see images of Officer Bazigian who left the police force recently to sell real estate. By the way, the Owl announcement about her departure was the second most-read Owl ever (after the Iron Horse edition).

The Owl is signing up this morning, not only because she may still be in time to get a free shirt, but as an act of personal hope. I’ve been sidelined for almost 10 months due to injury but may or may not be able to walk or run the course. By the way, the course is my favorite Weston route–the “Love Lane 5k route” with a lovely loop that starts and ends at the Town Green.
After the adult race, there will be a fun run led by the Weston Community Children’s Association (WCCA). You can find out more information about this on the event website. And also there will be food and music on the green. Please join your friends, family, and neighbors to support Weston Police.
Here’s the official stuff:
