Land’s Sake Pie Festival: Sunday, September 24

Good rainy morning, Weston. Officially, we are the coolest place in the USA today, not counting San Francisco which has the coldest summers of any place I have ever lived. What was that rumored Mark Twain saying again? Ah yes, “the coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco.” Sadly, he never said that but as we all know, the Owl’s grasp on actual truth depends on the day, and today I choose to not fact-check.

.
Now it is raining quite a bit so unless you enjoy mucky trails (I kind of do but K9 Ranger Katie Puppy has declared it a non-starter) or battling your way into work, it’s called sit on the couch day and catch up with all your planning and organizing. Oh, fine, apparently we are supposed to actually work today anyway. So annoying.
If you do choose to spend some time updating your fall calendar, make sure the Land’s Sake Pie Festival gets on it. Someone keeps saying that there are “pie people” and there are “cake people” and apparently you cannot be both which I will fact-check and say you can be both and so I am. My absolute favorite thing in the world is a strawberry meringue cake which is really like pie but yet a cake. Or a berry pie with so much whipped cream, it is actually cake. My breakfast granola is making me sad now.
At the moment, the details of the Pie Festival are still in the works, but ticket purchase is open, and it’s time to train for the pie-eating contest. You can never start training too early. Here is the event notification:
