Smart Phones, Social Media and Youth Mental Health: A Conversation with the PTO
On Friday, November 17 at 10:00 am, please join PTO’s Parent Education group for Coffee and Conversation on Smart Phones, Social Media, and Youth Mental Health.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that, starting in 2010 with the introduction of smart phones, feelings of persistent sadness, hopelessness and suicidal thoughts surged by approximately 40%. Additionally, test scores—particularly in math for grades 4 and 8—saw the biggest decline on record. Smart phone use and the decline in kids’ mental health is real.
On Friday, we will discuss considerations for keeping kids phone-free and how to keep devices child-safe. Please join for this important conversation and the opportunity to connect with others who are thoughtfully weighing these issues. The event will be held at the Weston Public Library Community Room.
For those who are unable to attend in person, this event will be also available via Zoom. Please contact Katherine Wilberton (email@example.com) and Marian Johnson (firstname.lastname@example.org) via email to request the Zoom link.
