English as a Second Language at the Weston Public Library: Upcoming Class

Local Weston resident and former English teacher Carol Ott will lead an English as a Second Language (ESL) conversation group at the Weston Public Library on Wednesdays, February 14-April 17. Attendance is free of charge and the only requirement is an ability to speak basic English.

Learning to interact daily in a new language is incredibly hard–when the Owl moved to Brazil in 1998, she was armed only with a crash class in Portuguese and promptly cried for six months straight when she couldn’t communicate well. There were many many many bad days but the key to learning that new language is to get out there and try– and keep trying–and find yourself a supportive, non-judge-y group of people with whom to practice your verb tenses and key phrases. Also a good sense of humor always helps.

If you know someone who would appreciate some conversation time, and support, and a group of folks going through the struggles of learning a very difficult language (that would be English), please encourage them to call or stop by.

The Weston Public Library is at 87 School Street.
