Shared Habitat Earth at Weston Public Library in April – Art, Music, Birdsong and Shrubbery

Erin Starr, This is Our Forever

Starting April 2, the Art Gallery and Community Room at the Weston Public Library (87 School Street) will host “Alive,” artwork by Shared Habitat Earth (S.H.E.) in celebration of Earth Day 2024. S.H.E. is a group of about 40 Boston area artists who are concerned about the environment and life on our planet. Or in their words:

“The effects of climate change on our beautiful planet have become increasingly and alarmingly clear. We are seeing dramatic weather events all over the world–with disastrous consequences. Art speaks beyond words. It can help us see–and live up to our humanity, by doing our part. Through their paintings and photographs, the artists in this exhibit celebrate the beauty of nature and dramatize the tension between what humanity has enjoyed for thousands of years and what will be left if we don’t act now. The exhibit includes an educational component and provides also tools for action. A percentage of all sales will go to selected environmental organizations. For more information, visit: www.sharedhabitatearth.org.” [Ed. Go immediately to the website, there is some gorgeous art!]

Opening reception: Saturday April 13, 3 pm – 4:30 pm

In addition, in conjunction with the art show, S.H.E will have two special events around this year’s Earth Day (April 22):

“Harmonies of Nature: A Concert/Lecture about Birdsong”

Sunday, April 21, 3:00—4:30 PM

Community Room, Weston Public Library, 87 School Street, Weston, MA, 02493

Shared Habitat Earth (SHE), http://www.sharedhabitatearth.org,  is thrilled to announce an upcoming concert-lecture that goes beyond music to embrace the delicate melodies of the natural world, showcasing the beauty and complexities of birdsong.

In a time of environmental uncertainty, as bird populations face unprecedented challenges, this lecture-concert serves as a timely reminder of our connection to nature. The event will feature multimedia presentations, including videos of birds in their melodic glory, accompanied by musical transcriptions of their songs. Our musicians will breathe life into these transcriptions by performing them, offering the audience a rare glimpse into the beauty and complexity of birdsong. The concert will also feature performances of two original compositions inspired by birdsong, each prefaced with insights by the composer, Alexander Liebermann.

With composer Alexander Liebermann and musicians Felicitas Schiffner (violin), Courtney Regester (flute), Chiau Ring Chen (viola) and Nicholas Tsang (violoncello).

Don’t miss this opportunity to rekindle your relationship with nature and engage in conversations about our environment! Join us and let the melodies of our avian friends resonate in your heart!

This event is presented in conjunction with our art show, “Alive!” which will be on exhibit in the Gallery and in the  Community Room at The Weston Public Library during the month of April.

This event is free and open to the public.

Celebrate Earth Day: “Free Shrub Give-Away”

Monday, April 22, 11:00 AM—1:00 PM

Weston Library – Parking Lot, Weston Public Library, 87 School Street, Weston, MA, 02493

Celebrate Earth Day: "Free Shrub Give-Away"

I blame Monty Python for the fact that anytime I hear the word “shrub” I wish to change it to “shrubbery” and adopt an English accent. And yet, many of you will not get that allusion — if not, get yourself to “Spamalot” on Broadway before it closes on April 8.

Onwards…

Members of Shared Habitat Earth will give away bare root seedlings of Gray Dogwood and Ninebark shrubs, with information about how to best plant and care for them.

Do not cut them down with a herring. Fine, Monty Python dies hard.

I feel like the Weston Public Library is totally over-achieving for Earth Day 2024. In conjunction with Land’s Sake’s Earth Day events, the Tree Advisory Group program, Tree-Plenish with Weston High School…well, dear Weston, I hardly recognize you! And that’s a good thing.

Love your Mother (Earth).
