Every week I like to peruse the First Parish Church newsletter to see what they’ve got going on. I admit I go to few of their events which has more to do with soccer games being on Sundays (like this one) and less to do with the fact that I just don’t go to church. I learn a lot about goings-on in Weston from the First Parish newsletter and I suggest you subscribe to it even if you have no intention of ever setting foot in its stony Paul-Revere-bell-edness.

So imagine my surprise when the FPC newsletter had information about a tour of and info session about the Drabbington Lodge/aka Manor North/aka former Sunrise location this Wednesday, April 24 at 6 pm. Did I get a notification from the Town? Did you? What the actual heck? Did you know that we have a warrant article coming up at Town Meeting on Mary 6 about developing the lodge into 20ish units of age-restricted housing? Well, I did know that, and I for one am in favor of it but does the vast majority of this town know what is going on? I guess only 300 residents show up for Town Meeting anyway so maybe it doesn’t matter. Have I done enough complaining about being the last to know about this meeting? ARGH!

Here’s the information–and your chance to check out the inside of historic Drabbington Lodge. It needs work. Lots of it. Imagine the new life it will have as an age-restricted housing option in Weston.

Drabbington Lodge Info Session & Tour

Date: Wednesday, April 24th

Time: 6pm

You are invited to a Tour & Info Session at the Drabbington Lodge (former Sunrise Assisted Living facility) followed by a viewing of the second Public Hearing for Warrant Article 22.  

Warrant Article 22 is a change to Weston’s by-laws that will enable the development of the Drabbington Lodge into ~20 units of age-restricted housing. This Warrant Article will be voted on at Town Meeting on May 6th.  Here is a link to the By-law (draft).

There is an urgent need for a diversity of housing options in Weston to meet the needs of our aging residents. It is important that this by-law change passes at Town Meeting in May.
