Weekend Calendar: Pansies, Patriots and Charity Exercise April 8-10

Not a pansy.

Happy Friday, Weston, and here’s fingers crossed for a little bit of sun today and during this weekend. The good news is that your plants are really really happy even if you are not. Here are some suggestions for some weekend fun–some weather-dependent, some not. Enjoy!

Friday, April 8:

Art in Tune at Museum of Fine Arts Boston, 6-8 pm. Art in Tune in the MFA’s galleries—free live musical performances highlighting the Museum’s musical instrument collection. Reduced admission. More info here.

Saturday, April 9:

Pansy Day at Needham History Center, Needham, 10 am-3 pm: The Needham History Center and Museum is hosting its annual Pansy Day Festival.  There will be pansy plants of all sizes – flats, potted arrangements, and hanging planters – in an array of vibrant colors to purchase. More information and directions here.

Sports Equipment Sale at Fenn School, Concord, 9 am-12 pm. There is usually some really good pre-loved sports equipment at this sale if you need lacrosse sticks, soccer balls, skis, whatever. 516 Monument Street, Concord.

Charity Run for the Ukraine, 11 am: Organized by Weston High School students (go ‘cats) at Burchard Park. 100% of proceeds going to the Rotary Foundation’s Disaster Response Fund for Ukraine. Read more about the event here and get a t-shirt too.

Charity B/SPOKE-ing for Girl Up, 11:30 am at B/SPOKE Wellesley. You can read more about this event in the Owl.

Patriot’s Day events are starting up around the area. Image credit.

Friends of Minute Man National Park Events: let the Patriot games begin. Lots of events coming up before the fun re-enactment at Oh-Dark-Thirty on Patriot’s Day. On tap for April 9 is lots of fife and drumming, probably some musket fire, and a theatrical re-enactment of Paul Revere’s Capture. 1 pm at Meriam’s Corner in Concord, and 3 pm at the Paul Revere Capture Site in Lincoln. Much more information here.

Musical Enrichment for the Animals, Franklin Park Zoo, 1-3 pm. This caught my eye–and I love it. Animals will be enjoying musical interludes as a form of enrichment at their exhibits courtesy of the Berklee College of Music. More information here.

Sunday, April 10

Special Olympics of Massachusetts Basketball Tournament Playoffs, 9 am-3pm at Weston High School and Weston Middle School. Come on out and cheer on these amazing athletes. More information in the Owl here.
