National Poetry Month Reading with Matthew E Henry and Hannah Larrabee – April 3

National Poetry Month is coming up (that would be April) and a propos of it, the Weston Public Library is sponsoring a reading by two local poets – Matthew E Henry and Hannah Larrabee on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:30 pm in the Community Room. Dr. Henry will be reading from said the Frog to the scorpion and Ms. Larrabee from The Observable Universe.

Dr. Matthew E Henry, who along with his claims to fame as a poet and a Weston High School English teacher, also survived an Owlet in his class for which he will always get major points. If you are not familiar with Dr. Henry, you are in for some of the most gut-wrenching and personal poems you will read – and even if you are like me and sometimes miss the nuances of some poetry (though Stopping By Woods is NOT about death, Dr. Henry and no I will not give up), you will not miss the allusions to some experiences of a black teacher in a white school system. The Owl has written about Dr. Henry before for his last reading at the library in 2022. By the way, make sure you re-read the Frog and the Scorpion fable and realize things are not going to go well in these poems. You can purchase the book at the reading or order it here.

Though I do not know Hannah Larrabee, I am also much looking forward to the reading of her poems. She wrote poetry for a telescope!! What would the James Webb telescope say if it could talk? Science-y poetry, I can hardly wait. You can find out more about Ms. Larrabee at her wonderful website here and you can pre-order a book there or you can get it during the reading.

Happy Poetry Month. The Weston Public Library is located at 87 School Street.

See you there!
