First of all, don’t forget to “spring forward” on Saturday to Sunday (technically at 2 am but who stays up til 2? I haven’t seen 2 am in 15 years and the twins’ early days of partying in the middle of the night). I once missed Easter Sunday services in York, England because of that whole springing forward thing–it was the first and last time I was in York (as an exchange student) and I think the last time in a cathedral. Will have to think about that. Anyway, who cares? Let’s see some of the fun stuff around this weekend.

All Weekend or Multiple Dates

Restaurant Week aka Dine Out Boston is back starting on Sunday, March 13 and running through March 22. Lots of yummy places to try and to invite the Owl. Just remember I do not leave the Ws, Ls and Cs, so plan accordingly. Please note that I will make an exception if someone invites me to Alma Gaucha Brazilian restaurant and I promise to translate everything for you before eating it all up. Participating restaurants offer prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner. Each participating restaurant selects one of three price options. Note that to support the recovery of the local restaurant industry, menu prices have increased.

Also, all weekend long is Weston Friendly Kids’ Matilda Jr., with the talented, and dare I say it, cute 4th and 5th-grade cast. They seem close to a sell-out (balcony seats only at this point) so get your tickets right quick. Friday 6:30 pm, Saturday 4 pm, and Sunday at 1 pm at the Town Hall Auditorium. Get tickets here.

It is the last weekend for Jeffrey Gibson: INFINITE INDIGENOUS QUEER LOVE at the Trustees/DeCordova Museum in Lincoln. The exhibition is “a bold, declarative framework which debuts a series of collages, an immersive display featuring three hanging fringe sculptures, and recent videos created with collaborators, musicians, and performers.” You can get timed entry tickets here. Please note the incredibly delicious Twisted Tree Cafe has now opened in the DeCordova so get your caffeine on.

Head on over to LexArt’s 26th Annual Regional High School Show. No, Weston High School is not there (note to Weston AIC–me likey this event. Why don’t we do this for our high school students, public and private? Please get back to me on that 😉 ) As you all know, I love seeing what high schoolers are doing–arts, sports, music. Wayland Winter Market, 10:30-2 pm: Last weekend for the winter market at Russell’s. Another sign of spring! More information here.

Flipping the Script: Women of the Old Manse, 2 pm Fridays and Saturdays this month, Concord. These are the stories of the women of the Old Manse who lived in the Old Manse from the time of the Revolutionary War through 1939. Some of these women were pretty badass, especially the one who liked to etch the glass windows! Revolutionary graffiti, nice. Keep an eye out for the dusty Owl which is very very creepy. And dead, just fyi. More information on this Trustees property and the tour here.

Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner with the Country Masters, French American Victory Club, Waltham, 5:30-11 pm. Okay this is the curveball of the weekend. First of all, who knew we had a French American Victory Club in the next town over? Be honest. Here’s their write-up: “a social men and women’s club that preserves French Canadian and Acadian heritage and welcomes all nationalities.  It is also a charitable organization that promotes and supports community needs through volunteer efforts.” Now, I know not much about the Acadians but I suspect that corned beef and cabbage is not French Canadian. Folks, are they now marketing poutine as corned beef and cabbage? I worry. Anyway, this seems like the weekend winner and I demand someone goes and tells me about it. More info here.

Update: 2:30 pm At the request of a reader, here is an event for the community this Sunday: “If you’d like to learn more about how you can help in the efforts to welcome our new Afghan neighbors please join us on Sunday, March 13th from 11:30am to 12:20pm, at St. Peter’s Church, 320 Boston Post Rd., in Weston. You will hear from a group of multi-denominational volunteers who are working with Afghan refugees in the Merrimack Valley, greater Boston and Manchester NH. For more information, please contact Karen Montague. See Zoom link below.
